What is ALTCS?

The Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS) is a state Medicaid program that provides long-term care services to individuals who are 65 or older, blind, or disabled and require a nursing facility level of care.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for ALTCS, applicants must meet both financial and medical criteria:

  • Medical Criteria: You must require a nursing home level of care, as determined by a pre-admission screening (PAS).
  • Financial Criteria: There are strict limits on income and countable assets. The exact numbers change annually, so it’s important to consult with a professional.

What Does ALTCS Cover?

If approved, ALTCS can cover the cost of care in various settings, including:

  • In-home care (attendant care)
  • Adult day health care
  • Assisted living facilities and memory care (room and board is typically paid by the resident, while care is covered by ALTCS)
  • Nursing facilities
